Things are heating up here... but not weather-wise. It is only 55 degrees today. The only good thing about this is that I get to wear my new jacket out! Andy came home yesterday from his field trip and told me that he had broken his brand new glasses. I remained calm. I took a look at them and found that he hadn't broken the plastic, but had bent the metal hinges. I am so grateful. So we spent an hour and half yesterday afternoon at the Lenscrafters, getting the hinge repaired and a new screw put in. I don't understand how he can keep doing this... how is it possible that he keeps whacking his head into things??
Today, I had planned on going out for a bike ride and see if I could conquer the big hill I didn't do on Tuesday's ride. However, after reviewing the events of the morning, if I had gone riding, surely I would have been hit by a car or something because God made sure that I didn't get to go out on my bike. We were almost ready to go to the bus stop this morning, when Elias told me that all the car doors were locked. My keys were inside the car, on the seat. Yup. Locked out of the car, five minutes before it was time to go to the bus stop. I didn't lose my mind, but called the next door neighbor and asked her to take Andy and Benjamin to the bus stop for me. She is a wonderful woman to live next to! Then I called USAA and they sent the roadside assistance guy to open the car up. The whole thing, from calling USAA, to leaving the house to take Elias and James to school was 40 minutes. Isn't that great? Now, I do think that a certain 5 year old person had something to do with the car doors getting locked... but I don't know for sure if he did it.
So, since I was late leaving, and we have the Blue and Gold Boy Scout Potluck tonight, I decided to take a quick run to the grocery store to pick up some stuff. By the time I had gotten home and unloaded the groceries, the school had called 3 times. I tried to call them back and the phone was busy, so I just went up to school. It turns out that Andy was in the nurse's office because of nausea and he told his teacher he had thrown up after he got to school. I had my doubts about whether he was sick or not once I saw him -- I looked around the corner at him and he said hi with a big grin.
After talking and talking and talking, here is the email I sent his teacher:
I really didn't think that Andy was ill today since when I peeked around the nurse's office door, he broke out in a big grin. After we arrived home, I told him that if he were actually sick, he would have to miss the annual Boy Scout Blue and Gold Dinner. This wasn't enthusiastically received. I asked Andy if there was anything else bothering him, knowing that he tends to internalize his upsets.
After much conversation, Andy has told me that Ian is kicking him both during class and during morning recess. Andy said that Ian used to do the same thing to Bobby, but that Andy told him to stop kicking Bobby. Once Andy told him to stop, Ian transferred his kicking to Andy. According to Andy, this happens almost every single day and that is why he was upset this morning. He tells me that he has asked Ian to stop, and has tried staying away from him, but that Ian always chases him and kicks him again. Also, Bobby is apparently calling Andy dumb now that Bobby and Ian are friends.
Obviously, this makes me unhappy -- and Andy even more unhappy. Could you please investigate this whole thing and let me know what you find out? It amazes me that Andy can be going through this whole thing and never mention one thing about it to anyone.
I just don't understand how she could not have noticed something that has been going on in her classroom every day since the second day back from Christmas break. The reply to my email was that she had no idea this was going on and that she would look into it on Monday, as she wasn't going to be in school tomorrow. I will keep you posted.
