Today, I started running with a group. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it wasn't a bowl of cherries, either. I met up with the group at 5:15am -- in the absolute darkness of Tucson (we don't have street lights because of the observatories all over town). We ran, or rather, they ran 1.5 miles and I jogged about a mile. Then we adjourned to the track and they did 12 X 400 meters. I just kept going. They usually lapped me twice for every lap I did, but that is alright. I have to start somewhere! I kept going for about 90% of the time; the other 10% was walking. I was for sure the slowest person there. I think I did about 2.5 miles, maybe a little farther, before it was time to go home. On Thursday, we meet at 5am and run on the road. I am not going to do this unless I have purchased a light to come along with me.
The strangest thing is happening -- I am COLD. I guess I am finally acclimated to Tucson weather. I have been cold for two days now and just cannot seem to pull myself together. This means that I have missed swim practice, which I was just going back to after a few months off (football practice pretty much replaced my swim time). I couldn't bear the thought of trotting across the pool deck wet in 40 degrees. Right now it is 47 degrees and I just turned on the oven to get some heat in the front of the house. It is time to start the Christmas baking, but getting warmer is more important to me right now.
