A few observations on Tucson:

While I was driving home from practice tonight, I had plenty of time to look around and see what businesses lined the road. The road to the University is one of the main roads in town and is 3 lanes going each way. There is the usual stuff, fast food places, movie theatres, bowling alleys, and car dealerships. Then there are the girly bars and the gun shops. Usually, these two places are sharing a building and signage. There are alot of girly bars. My favorite names are The Surly Wench Pub and the Bunny Ranch. I know these things existed in Maryland, but I sure didn't see them in the middle of town!

The number of gun shops is really amazing -- there is even a place for custom-made ammunition (it is right next to a custom-made boot shop, rather than a girly bar). On another main road through town, there are several gun and ammunition shops across from the main cemetery (which, by the way, is just a couple of blocks from the Tucson Medical Center). I realize again and again that Tucson really is a small town that is just spread over a large area. Everything important is along one or two roads -- the churches, the girly bars, the gun shops, the hospitals and the cemetery. I guess that makes everything convenient!
